Must-Haves for an Efficient Home Office
Due to these recent uncertain times of an ongoing pandemic, many of us are made to work from home. Creating a space at home for your work, in general, itself is a valuable asset to your productive lifestyle. Once you have a space assigned at home, designated to work as a desk just like you have at your office where you can work, becomes easier to keep the work-mode on and sets the mood to do things. It shouldn't feel like,
A “home office”, like an efficient desk set up is what you need at the moment! The below mentioned are the 5 Must-haves for an efficient home office. Efficiency is vital!
1. Ergonomics
The first most important thing after deciding
the space for working is to make sure you have an ergonomically optimized
workspace that helps you work “efficiently and safely.” By protecting your body from
injury (or recurring pain), you're better able to focus on your task, which, in
turn, makes you a more efficient and productive worker. A decent desk & a good chair is sufficient to avoid us from working in those awkward positions
and wanting to go back on our couches, resulting in problems with our muscles,
tendons, ligaments, or nerves. Follow these tips,
If you're using a screen, keep it at eye level and perfect your posture. Head and Neck, Hand and Wrist Position, Seated Posture, and Back Support are the 4 areas of focus. If you’re someone whose work involves a lot of phone calls then place your phone in speaker mode or use a headset, especially if you type or write at the same time. Don’t forget to take frequent breaks to avoid straining your muscles and don’t wreck your body for the long term. Use an ergonomic workspace to reduce back & neck pain.
2. Supplies & Tools
Working with the right set of supplies and
tools, helps you to stay efficient and quick. Being an Architect and personally
a huge fan of stationary, I make sure I have everything near me to keep my workflow going. Laptop, sticky notes, “To do list”, Notepads, tons of stationary
like color pens & pencils, Markers, highlighters, Sketching and measuring
equipment, a Water bottle (Stay hydrated!) and last but not the least have good
Not to forget a bit of vibrancy with some green
plants! If your desk has drawers, even better! - A detailed typical home office
stationery checklist would have the above-mentioned items plus Printer paper,
Binders, Folders, Stapler, Scissors, Paperclips, Document sorter/holder, etc.
Believe me, I can go on and on while having this deep admiration for
stationary.
3. Reduce visual clutter
You prefer to work at a clean desk, but why? For staying in an organized and systematic
manner. You don’t want hundreds of things on your desk and not knowing which is
placed where and continue working in a completely messed up space. In my blog
about “Boost your Productivity daily!” I have explained in detail the
importance of decluttering regularly and everything has a place. Do read and
understand the role of a clear & neat space while working to stay productive & increase the efficiency of your desk and stay
4. Knowledgeable materials
By knowledgeable material I mean, the books, sheets, documents, papers, articles, or anything that you use for your work as a reference or any actual stand-alone material itself. While working on your desk, prefer keeping a specific space for all your knowledgeable material or if not, at closer proximity to the desk.
Keeping it near would remind you of
your sources available and make it easier to go on with your daily work
smoothly. Keep all those materials at your disposal and make the best use of
them and don’t just keep them lying on your desk for no reason. Use the
resources available to you wisely.
5. Productivity
To sum it all up, Productivity describes
various measures of the efficiency of production. A desk office can’t be of any
good efficiency if it doesn’t even produce any work. The whole point of having
such a designated space for you is to stay productive and boost that productivity
in every possible way.
